Another Good Friend that loves wood

Posted on February 16, 2009 14:36

Just a quick note to let you all know about our new friends at www.specialtybuiltconstruction.com From Feb. 14 to 22 they will be at the Seattle Home show.

I have recently had the pleasure of meeting Rick and have been introduced to his recent home/building projects. I must say that I am very impressed on both accounts. If you live in the northwest and can get to the homeshow please visit with Rick. Whether you end up using Rick in your next project or not, you will enjoy the visit with a person that truely enjoys his "work" and that has a fine appreciation of the builder/client relationship.

If you are not in the area then by all means visit his website. You will be pleasantly awed!

What a Summer/Fall

Posted on December 7, 2008 18:55

I am so very pleased with the requests that you have sent our way during the past few months. As we move into the gray, gloomy northwest weather it is time to kick the stove into gear and warm the shop.

It is also time to renew our relationship with our friends at www.mindfly.com and bring, to you, new pictures of projects and wood species that will now be offered.

I have not been blogging enough to keep all informed as well as to promote our site so that you might more easily find us. I have to be honest and say that I would much rather make sawdust than shape "the blog" but you know the bitter/sweet thing is ever present.

The Bitter......Some of you may have read about some random shootings and killings in our area of Washington State. Well one of my dear friends was shot and killed while he did what he loved doing....carpentry. Once again we are confronted by hideous behavior and the complete absence of mental health services for families when they have sought support for a family member that is obviously on the edge. Please support any efforts in your area to enhance mental health services.

The Sweet.....memories of David and his love of wood!!

Boat works by friends

Posted on February 28, 2008 17:14

I have a picture that occasionally shows on our homepage, of a row boat that we are so proud to be able to enjoy. As I stated in the caption....it was built with a number of different types of wood from our mantel shop at Timbermantels.

These "scraps" so to speak are Pacific Yew, old growth Western Red Cedar, Black Walnut, Oak, Alaska Cedar(yellow cedar), old growth Douglas Fir, Sitka Spruce and a sheet of plywood. This was accomplished by a seasoned wooden boat builder by the name of Eric Friberg that lives in Bellingham, Washington in the Pacific Northwest. If you enjoy the comfort and warmth of wood and the special skill it takes to assemble it in such a fashion so as to float and row then you will enjoy visiting our friends site at www.northfjordboats.com  Erics craft is something to enjoy and of course purchase!!

The continued use of the unused mantel wood for special projects by other artisans is especially rewarding for us. You never know who we may find digging in our wood bin for that special piece.    It may be YOU!!

Another group that has been and is so helpful in sending some of you to us are the folks at www.homeexpo.com

Mantel Shelf

Posted on January 28, 2008 18:44

Today I was informed by a customer that he searched for us using the term "mantel shelf". He got  a number of sites that showed the complete surround style when he searched just "mantels".

I am happy that he found us and that we are able to provide him with a Cedar fireplace mantel shelf. I suppose that the term "mantel shelves" or "mantle shelves" would work easily as well.

Also I need to add that we have crafted some Pacific Yew fireplace mantel surrounds. It was accomplished by adding beam legs as supports to the custom wood mantel shelf.

They are stunning and if you would like to see pictures you need only ask.

If you would like to see one of our cedar mantel shelves and if you live in the Bellingham, Washington area you can go and see our friends at www.innovations-fql.com/contact.html. At their website you will find an address for the brick and mortar. Their display room is outstanding......good people! If you would like to visit us, at our shop, then give a call and I will give you directions for your drive to the "up river" area.

Enjoy the week!

Wild Wood Forge

Posted on January 20, 2008 18:40

One of the perks of creating custom fireplace mantels is the opportunity to collaborate with artisans working with other materials.

When one of our customers asks for specific designs regarding their corbels and if the request is to be created in metal then we turn to our good friend---Ken Williams at www.wildwoodforge.com . Ken has the uncanny insight/creativity to mate the hard metal world with the soft wood world. Visit his site and see for your self.

If you do not see what you may like to do with an addition of forged metal to your custom mantel then by all means ask Ken directly or call and discuss it with me and it will get passed on to him.

Ken and I are looking forward to jointly creating some new offerings in the marrying of custom metal forging with custom wood mantels.

Stay tuned and check back with us...... Could be very interesting!

Total ''makeover'' of our website

Posted on December 5, 2007 19:24

Today is very exciting to us in that our newly redesigned website has gone live. We are asking for any comments as to how it all works for you. If we are missing certain elements that would make your shopping easier, then please let us know. Our new site can be directly attributed to our new found friends at www.mindfly.com Thank you to Heather, John, and Marcus for your expertise and your "easy to access" manner in which you dealt with Phyllis and I through the process. We are looking forward to "growing" our business with you assisting us through the maze of computer marketing. To you who may be looking for a fireplace mantel that is more than a shelf, we are committed to give you the personal attention to make your mantel your natural functional art for your home.
